How do I book a session?
Option 1: Through the Website
Visit https://www.tutorlyft.com/get-started and use the subject and level filters to find a tutor that fits your needs. You can view profiles, check availability, and book directly from the tutor’s page in just a few clicks.
Option 2: Through the Client Portal
If you're logged into your portal, click on the Tutors tab to browse our full list of available tutors. You’ll be able to view their subjects, availability, and pricing, and book directly from there.
Booking Types
At the time of booking, you'll see three options:
- A single session
- Multiple sessions at once—get 5% off when you book 5–9 lessons, or 10% off when you book 10 or more
- Recurring sessions (same time every week)
There are no subscriptions, no contracts, and no long-term commitments—just book what you need, when you need it.
Can I talk to a tutor before booking a full session?
Yes! Most tutors offer a free consultation, and you can also send them a direct message if you have questions before booking.
Option 1: Book a Free Consultation
A consultation is a short phone or video call (usually 15–20 minutes) where you can:
- Ask the tutor about their approach
- Share your or your child’s learning goals
- Make sure it’s a good fit before booking a full lesson
You can book a consultation directly from the tutor’s profile on our website or through the Tutors tab in your portal.
Option 2: Send a Message
Prefer to start with a quick question? Head to the Messages tab in your portal and send the tutor a direct message.
Tutors aim to respond within 24 hours, and you’ll also get an email notification as soon as they reply.
How do I reschedule or cancel a session?
You can manage all your bookings directly from the Bookings tab in your TutorLyft portal.
If it’s more than 24 hours before the session:
- You can reschedule or cancel the session instantly.
- If it’s a paid lesson, you’ll be refunded in full—no questions asked.
- For consultations, you can also reschedule or cancel with no penalty.
If it’s less than 24 hours before the session:
- You can still cancel the session through the portal.
- In most cases, no refund will be issued, as we aim to respect the time and preparation of our tutors.
- That said, we understand life happens—we do review these situations on a case-by-case basis, so feel free to reach out if something urgent comes up.

What is the refund policy?
We aim to be fair to both clients and tutors, so our refund policy is based on timing and communication.
Full Refunds – 24+ Hours Notice
If you cancel a paid lesson more than 24 hours in advance, you’ll receive a full refund—no questions asked.
- You can cancel directly from the Bookings tab in your portal
- You’ll receive an email notification once the refund is processed
- You can track the status of your refund in the Bookings tab
- Refunds typically take 5–10 business days to appear on your statement, depending on your bank
Less Than 24 Hours Notice
If you cancel within 24 hours of the session:
- The session is generally non-refundable, out of respect for the tutor’s time and prep
- That said, we do handle situations on a case-by-case basis, especially in the event of emergencies or unforeseen issues
Consultations are free, but we ask that you cancel at least 24 hours in advance so tutors can manage their schedules.
That said, we know life happens—if something comes up last minute, don’t stress. Just send your tutor a quick message through the Messages tab and/or reach out to us through the Support tab. We’ll help you sort things out.

How do I join an online session?
You’ll receive a Lessonspace link in your confirmation email. You can also log in and click Join Meeting from your Bookings tab at the scheduled time.
What happens if I miss a session?
If you miss a session without canceling at least 24 hours in advance, it’s typically considered a no-show and is non-refundable. Tutors reserve their time for you and often prepare in advance.
What to Do If You Missed a Session
We understand that things come up. If you missed a session:
- Message your tutor through the Messages tab to let them know what happened
- Also send us a message through the Support tab in your portal so we can review the situation
We handle these cases with empathy and on a case-by-case basis, especially for emergencies or honest mistakes.
How are payments handled?
All payments are made securely at the time of booking using your credit card—no e-transfers or manual payments required.
We use Stripe, a trusted global payment processor used by companies like Amazon, Google, and Shopify. Your payment information is encrypted, never stored on our servers, and handled in compliance with the highest industry security standards.
You can download invoices for all paid sessions anytime from the Bookings tab in your client portal.
You can also manage your payment information—like updating your credit card—through the My Payment Info tab in your portal.
How do I find the right tutor?
Finding the right tutor is easy and flexible on TutorLyft.
Start by using the filters to narrow down your options based on the subject and grade or level you’re looking for help with. This ensures you’re only seeing tutors who specialize in the right area—whether it’s high school biology, first-year university math, or beginner French.
Once filtered, click on a tutor’s profile to:
- Watch their video introduction and get a feel for their teaching style and personality
- Learn about their experience, education, and background
- See their availability, rates, and whether they offer online or in-person sessions
When you find someone who feels like the right fit, you can book directly—or start with a free consultation if you’d like to connect first.
Reminder: There are no contracts or commitments. If the tutor isn’t the right fit, you’re free to try someone else anytime.
Can I switch tutors if it’s not the right fit?
Absolutely. You’re never locked in. Browse the portal anytime to explore other tutors or book a free consultation with someone new. We’re here to help you find the right match.
Can I arrange lessons with my tutor off the platform?
No—all lessons must be booked through the TutorLyft platform.
We know it might feel easier sometimes to coordinate directly, but booking outside the platform is strictly against our policy. We've put this in place to protect both tutors and clients—and to ensure a fair, transparent experience for everyone.
We invest heavily in building a safe, secure, and easy-to-use platform that benefits all parties:
- Tutors get visibility, scheduling tools, and guaranteed payouts
- Clients get access to trusted, vetted tutors, flexible booking, and responsive support
- Everyone is protected with clear policies, payment security, and built-in communication tools
Booking off-platform removes these protections and puts your experience at risk. For that reason, clients or tutors found arranging sessions off-platform may be removed from TutorLyft.
