It's a French test that IRCC accepts as proof of French for permanent residence and citizenship. You must take all four sections: listening (39 questions, 35 min), reading (39 questions, 60 min), writing (3 tasks, 60 min) and speaking (3 tasks, 12 min). Results arrive by email about 2 to 3 weeks after the test and are valid for two years.

IRCC's NCLC 7 ranges are 458 to 502 in listening and 453 to 498 in reading, both scored out of 699. Writing and speaking are scored out of 20, and NCLC 7 is 10 to 11 in each. For NCLC 9 you need at least 523 in listening, 524 in reading, and 14 in writing and speaking.

TCF Canada is for federal permanent residence and citizenship, and all four sections are required. TCF Québec is only for people settling in Québec, and you choose which sections to take. Check which one your program asks for before you book.

IRCC accepts both, both convert to CLB levels, and both results are valid for two years. The formats differ: the TCF speaking section is 12 minutes with three tasks, and writing and speaking are scored out of 20. Trying a practice test of each with your tutor shows which one suits you better.

Your tutor starts with a practice test to find your level in each section. Lessons then focus on closing the gap to your target CLB, with timed listening and reading drills and corrected writing and speaking tasks in the TCF format. Each tutor sets their own hourly rate, shown on their profile.

Here's how our cancellation policy works:

• 24 Hours or more in advance: If you cancel your session at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time, you will receive a full refund, no questions asked.

• Less than 24 Hours: If you find yourself needing to cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, please be aware that failing to show up or canceling within this time frame will result in a full charge for the appointment. However, we do handle these situations on a case-by-case basis. While we can't guarantee a refund, we will do our best to find a solution that is fair for both you and the tutor.
