You can find a tutor by browsing the Tutors page and using the available filters to narrow down your options.

Booking a tutor on TutorLyft only takes a few minutes:

1. Go to the Tutors page and use the filters to search by subject, grade level, availability, price, or lesson format (online or in-person).

2. Browse tutor profiles to learn more about each tutor. You can watch their introductory video, review their background, and see the subjects and grade levels they teach.

3. Click “Book” on the lesson type you want (for example, a 60-minute session).

For a full walkthrough, see our guide.

How much does it cost?

Each tutor on TutorLyft sets their own hourly rate, so prices can vary depending on the tutor’s experience, subject, and lesson format. In most cases, tutoring rates typically range from CA$40 to CA$75 per hour.

You can view a tutor’s exact rate directly on their profile before booking, and many tutors also offer a free consultation so you can discuss your learning goals before scheduling a paid session.

How does payment work?

All payments on TutorLyft are handled securely through our booking app. You pay by credit card at the time of booking, and we do not accept e-transfers. There are no subscriptions or hidden fees—you’re only charged for the lessons you book.

How payment works depends on the type of booking you choose:

Single lessons: You pay for the lesson at the time of booking.
Multiple lessons: You pay for the entire package upfront when you book (any applicable bulk discount is automatically applied at checkout).
Recurring lessons: You pay for the first lesson at the time of booking, and each future lesson is automatically charged to your card 12 hours before the scheduled session.

All payments must be made through the TutorLyft platform. Please do not arrange payments directly with tutors outside of TutorLyft. Doing so violates our platform terms and may result in both the tutor and client being removed from the platform.

Do I have to pay a subscription?

Absolutely not! There are no subscription fees or initial costs to use TutorLyft. It’s part of our mission to make high-quality, personalized education easily accessible. You are free to explore and connect with tutors at no charge and only pay for the tutoring sessions you choose to book. We're committed to providing a seamless experience for you to find the perfect tutor to meet your learning needs.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes. TutorLyft offers discounts when you book multiple lessons at once with the same tutor.

To access the discount, go to a tutor’s profile and click Book on the lesson type you’d like (for example, a 60-minute session). After selecting a date and time, you’ll see three booking options:

Single – Book and pay for one lesson
Multiple – Select and pay for several lessons at once (this is where discounts apply)
Recurring – Set up lessons that repeat weekly

When you choose Multiple, the system will automatically apply a discount based on how many lessons you select:

5–9 lessons: 5% off your total
10+ lessons: 10% off your total

The discount is automatically applied at checkout, and payment for the full package is made at the time of booking.

Can I switch tutors if it’s not the right fit?

Finding the right tutor is important, and sometimes the first match isn’t perfect. If you’re not satisfied with your first session, TutorLyft will refund that session and help you try another tutor. Your next hour with a different tutor will also be free, so you can find someone who better fits your learning style and goals.

Do you offer online tutoring or in-person tutoring?

TutorLyft offers both online and in-person tutoring, but availability depends on the individual tutor. Some tutors offer only online lessons, while others offer both online and in-person sessions.

To find in-person tutors, go to the Tutors page and open the Filters menu. From there, you can toggle “In-person only” and enter your city to see tutors who offer in-person lessons in your area.

Online lessons are available with tutors across Canada, so you can book a session regardless of location.

How are online lessons held?

All online sessions are hosted through Lessonspace, a secure virtual classroom designed for tutoring. It includes video, audio, shared whiteboards, screen sharing, and interactive tools to make lessons engaging and effective.

Your privacy and security are important to us:

No downloads required — lessons open directly in your browser.
End-to-end encrypted sessions keep your data and conversations secure.

Do I need to create an account to book a tutor?

No, you don’t need to create an account to book a tutor. However, creating an account makes it easier to manage your bookings, join online lessons, and communicate with your tutor.

What happens if I need to cancel my session?

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes you may need to cancel a scheduled tutoring session. Here's how our cancellation policy works:

• 24 Hours or more in advance:
If you cancel your session at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time, you will receive a full refund, no questions asked.
• Less than 24 Hours:
If you find yourself needing to cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, please be aware that failing to show up or canceling within this time frame will result in a full charge for the appointment.

However, we do handle these situations on a case-by-case basis. While we can't guarantee a refund, we will do our best to find a solution that is fair for both you and the tutor.

We aim to be as flexible as possible while also respecting the time of our tutors. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please don't hesitate to contact us.

What ages or grade levels do you support?

TutorLyft supports a wide range of learners, from elementary school to university, depending on the tutor and subject. You can use the filters on the tutors page to browse by level, and each tutor profile also shows the specific grades or levels they teach for each subject.

What is the free phone consultation about?

During your free consultation, you'll have the opportunity to discuss your academic goals, ask questions about the tutor's teaching style, and understand how they can help you achieve success. It's a no-pressure way to see if the tutor is the right fit for you.

What is the difference between single, multiple, and recurring bookings?

When booking a tutor on TutorLyft, you’ll be able to choose between Single, Multiple, or Recurring lessons depending on how you want to schedule your sessions.

Single – Book and pay for one lesson at a specific date and time. This is a good option if you want to try a tutor first or only need occasional help.
Multiple – Book and pay for several lessons at once by selecting multiple dates and times from the tutor’s calendar. This option also unlocks bulk discounts (5-9 lessons: 5% off, 10+ lessons: 10% off)
Recurring – Set up a lesson that repeats automatically each week (for example, every Tuesday at 6:00 PM). This is ideal for students who want consistent, ongoing support without needing to book each lesson individually.

You’ll see these options after selecting a lesson type, date, and time when booking from a tutor’s profile.
