FAQs

Find answers to frequently asked questions.

What is Ontario's financial literacy graduation requirement?

Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, students who began Grade 9 in 2025–2026 or later must pass a financial literacy assessment to earn their diploma. It's completed inside the compulsory Grade 10 Career Studies course, using learning modules and test questions developed by TVO.

What score do students need, and how many attempts do they get?

Students need at least 70% and get two attempts during the course. The highest mark counts, and results make up 5% of the Career Studies final grade. If a student misses both attempts, the school offers extra support and further tries.

What topics does the test cover?

Budgeting, interest rates, earning and saving, taxes, credit and debt, consumer awareness, and financial fraud. The content draws on concepts from the Grades 1 to 9 math curriculum, including the Grade 9 financial literacy strand.

How does a TutorLyft financial literacy tutor help?

Tutors work one-to-one on the specific concepts a student finds hard, using real-life examples like building a budget or comparing credit cards, and run practice questions in the same style as the TVO modules so students walk in prepared.

Who needs to complete the requirement, and who is exempt?

Students who took Career Studies before the 2026–2027 school year don't need to complete it. Students who took a locally developed Grade 9 math course instead of MTH1W before September 2027 are also exempt, as are students entering an Ontario school in Grade 11 or 12 from outside the province if their principal grants Grade 9 and 10 equivalency credits. From September 2028, every student must complete it.

What if I need to cancel my tutoring session?

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes you may need to cancel a scheduled tutoring session.

Here's how our cancellation policy works:

• 24 Hours or More in Advance:
If you cancel your session at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time, you will receive a full refund, no questions asked.

• Less Than 24 Hours:
If you find yourself needing to cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, please be aware that failing to show up or canceling within this time frame will result in a full charge for the appointment. However, we do handle these situations on a case-by-case basis. While we can't guarantee a refund, we will do our best to find a solution that is fair for both parties.

We aim to be as flexible as possible while also respecting the time of our tutors. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please don't hesitate to contact us.
