Getting in

Can I get into SFU?

Tell us two things and we'll show where you'd sit among the students SFU admitted.

Overall

SFU doesn't publish an acceptance rate. Its institutional research office counts 14,548 offers of admission from 18,690 completed applications in 2025/26, across all types of applicant.

Grades aren't everything

Grades only for most programs. Business needs a supplemental application with a written answer, your achievements and two references. Music and Sound, Dance, Film and other Contemporary Arts programs need an audition, interview or portfolio, and Accelerated Law needs a supplemental application.

How your marks are counted

BC: SFU looks at all your approved academic Grade 11 and 12 courses, including the ones your program requires, and needs at least 70% in English 12. Early offers, from mid-November, use your Grade 11 marks and any Grade 12 marks so far. Ontario: all required Grade 11 courses and at least six Grade 12 U or M courses, with more weight on each program's List A courses and at least 70% in ENG4U.

Cost

What will my first year cost?

All Canadian students pay $220.61 a unit. International students who started in 2024/25 or later pay $1,262.88. Business, Engineering and Computing Science charge more, but only for 200-level courses and up. Supplementary fees add $527.56 a term.

After your first degree

Planning a professional degree?

Medicine, law and the rest start after university, not after Grade 12. Pick one to see what it asks for.

What is SFU's acceptance rate?

SFU doesn't publish one. Its institutional research office reports 14,548 offers of admission from 18,690 completed applications in 2025/26. That counts every type of applicant, not only high school students. For high school students, SFU publishes grade ranges by faculty instead.

What are SFU's medical school requirements?

SFU's three-year MD, at the Stephens Family School of Medicine in Surrey, needs a completed four-year degree. You qualify with a 3.83 GPA out of 4.33 and no MCAT, a 3.67 GPA plus an MCAT of 505, or an MCAT of 510 alone. Casper isn't required. You must live in BC, Yukon, Nunavut or the Northwest Territories. The 2027 class has 64 seats, and applications closed October 7, 2026.

When is the SFU application deadline?

January 31, 2027, for a September 2027 start, on EducationPlannerBC. All documents are due February 28, 2027. To be considered for SFU's main entrance scholarships, apply by December 15, 2026.

What average do you need to get into SFU?

SFU publishes the grade ranges it admitted over the past three years: high 80s to low 90s for Computing Science, mid 80s for Engineering, Science, Health Sciences and Education, and low 80s for Arts and Social Sciences, including Criminology and Psychology. Business asks for grades in the 80s plus a supplemental application.

What is SFU's ranking?

SFU is 312th in the QS World University Rankings 2027, down from =308 in 2026 and up from 319 in 2025.
