What is U of A GPA?

U of A uses a four-point letter grading system. Your GPA is the credit-weighted average of your course grade points (e.g., A = 4.0, B+ = 3.3, etc.). The four-point system has been in place university-wide since 2003.

GPA types at U of A

You’ll typically see a Term GPA (one term) and a Cumulative GPA (CGPA) (all U of A coursework). GPA is computed as total grade points ÷ total units taken (course weight). Some faculties also reference program-specific GPAs.

Open Bear Tracks → Academics to view grades, and download your Unofficial Transcript (PDF) to see your official GPAs once grades are approved. That transcript is the record of reference; web calculators are for estimates only.

GPA and academic standing

Academic standing at the University of Alberta is based on your Grade Point Average (GPA) at the end of each term. Students must maintain a minimum GPA to remain in good standing, which varies by faculty and program. Falling below the required threshold can result in academic warning, probation, or requirement to withdraw, while consistently strong performance may earn you placement on the Dean’s Honour List.
