Preply tutors set their own rates, starting from US$3 an hour, and Preply's listing for math tutors in Vancouver shows an average of US$17 a lesson. The trial lesson is paid, and the smallest plan is 4 lessons every 28 days, plus a processing fee.

Superprof tutors also set their own rates. Its Vancouver math page puts a typical lesson at about $28 an hour, and you pay a $49 Student Pass for each month it's active. Four lessons in a month cost about US$68 plus fees on Preply and about $161 on Superprof with the pass, though most Superprof tutors give the first lesson free. Once you've found a tutor on Superprof, you can cancel the pass and keep working with them.

Preply is built for language learning online, with tutors for more than 90 languages from 180 countries, lessons in its own video classroom and app, and practice exercises between lessons. Superprof also has language tutors, online or in person, but it covers a much wider mix of subjects, from math to music and sports.
